Process: CO2 laser systems can perforate cut and scribe packaging materials to create ‘easy open’ methods for food containers. The laser processes are generally in-line at the reel-to-reel stage of polymer processing Industrial sector: general industrial – food packaging Material: most plastic films and aluminium foil/plastic laminates. Also paper. Other notes: plastic layers can be cut partially to weaken regions to be opened such as drinking straw inserts. Laminates can be cut through the plastic layer but leaving the airtight foil layer intact.
