The high process speed and narrow weld profile obtained from keyhole laser welding has been used to good advantage in the production of this corrugated core lightweight stiffened panel manufactured in this example from CMn steel. The straightness of the lower edge in this photograph is indicative of the low distortion obtained from this technique. This example was intended as a marine platform but such structures can be made in many materials at different sites.
