This picture shows metal cutting with carbon dioxide (CO2) Slab laser power 1-5kW The technique is used in the machine tool and general industrial sectors. In this example the material is mild steel that is 15mm thick. It is possible to cut up to 25mm thick. When O2 gas is injected via the cutting nozzle exothermic oxidation of the material facilitates faster cutting.
